For Dads Stuck at Home: 15 Items For Under $15 To Help Maintain Some Sanity While Quarantined With The Kids

We’re in uncharted territory here in the US and around the world. And it’s scary.

We sincerely hope that the worst your family experiences in all of this is the inconvenience of having to stay put for a few weeks (or months) until this virus runs its course and life can at least start to return to some sense of normalcy.

But being stuck at home with young children and/or temperamental teens is going to test our dad skills like never before. So, to help you all get through it, we put together a list of 15 products for under $15 that can provide you and your family with hours of fun.

As of the time we’re writing this, they are all in stock at the internet. Also, NONE of them have a screen and only 1 even requires batteries (though you’ll literally have a blast with that product so it’s totally worth it 😉

Here ya go… hope some of these bring smiles and laughs to your home in the weeks and months ahead…

1. Crook to Cook – Snoop Dogg’s Soul Food Cookbook

If you can’t dine out and are stuck at home anyway, why not spend some time in the kitchen?

If you’re looking for some great recipes, Snoop Dogg’s got ya covered in his wildly popular soul food cookbook.

And at a time we need all the comfort we can get, what’s more comforting than soul food?

Now you may think a cookbook written by Snoop Dogg is a gag gift but you’d be wrong if you did. Snoop is  legit an excellent cook and people RAVE about the recipes in this book.

Whether it’s the Spaghetti De La Hood, Baby Got Back Ribs or Bow Wow Brownies and Ice Cream, you may just find some new family favorite meals rolled up (pun intended) in the pages of this book.

2. Monopoly Deal

This is the #1 game in my house. Even my teen loves it. We’ve played it so much over the last few years we’re on our 2nd deck cuz we wore the first one out.

If the thought of playing one more game of Uno or Go Fish has you ready to pull your hair out, Monopoly Deal will give you a life line. Get it. You won’t be disappointed.

3. Toilet Golf

Not as much for the kids, but if you’re a golf lover, this’ll let you practice sinking a hole in one while you’re dropping a deuce. Fun way to pass some time while you’re taking refuge in the bathroom.

4. Play Doh

Classic. Great for a wide range of kiddos. This package has 10 – 2oz cans of different colors. Will definitely keep the kids busy for a while. Nuff said.

5. Dad Joke Book

Even (especially?) in the face of a global pandemic, it’s our duty as dads to keep the dad jokes flowing. Here’s a timely one for you…

John Travolta was tested for coronavirus but the results were negative

Turns out he just had Saturday Night Fever.

Find more cheesy dad jokes in this collection. Our kids probably won’t thank us but we know deep down they can’t get enough of our dad jokes 😉

6. A Soccer Ball

There are no shortage of balls we can play with (hey, easy there!). But our vote for right now is a soccer ball.

Mainly cuz you don’t have to use your hands when playing soccer. So if the kiddos wanna play with their friends in the neighborhood, they don’t have to get their germy hands all over the ball. Cuz these are the kind of f*#ked up things we have to think about now.

7. Baby Signs book

This is for those of you who have young uns over 9 months old or so but who aren’t talking yet.

My wife and I did baby signs with both our kids and it was incredible! It totally cut down on their tantrums cuz they were able to tell us what they wanted (some of the time). Plus it gave us some fascinating insights into what was going on in those little brains of theirs (like our youngest telling my wife the employee at Home Depot was wearing a bib).

We tried a bunch of books on the subject, but this one was the best.

8. Bubbles

Yes, bubbles!! In the backyard. On the balcony. Out the window. Wherever. Plus it’s soap so it’ll serve double duty to keep your kids’ hands clean(ish?). Here’s a pack of 6 for under $10…

9. Nerf Gun

When the kids are out of their minds with boredom and are plotting your overthrow, fight back with this nerf gun. You can fire off 6 darts in about 2 seconds with this beauty!

You may wanna get a few, and throw in some extra darts so you and your kids can have some epic shootouts around the house.

Word of caution, though. If you accidentally shoot your wife and/or leave darts piled up all over the floor, this could add some bad juju to what is likely already a tense household situation.

10. Jenga

Jenga! It’s a classic. It’s fun. It’s cheap. It’s a good game to have around. What else is there to say?

11. Playing cards

Teach the kids poker. Use sheets of toilet paper for betting.

There’s plenty of other games to play with a deck o’ cards. Learn how to do some card tricks. How to shuffle like a pro. Build a house of cards.

Bottom line, cards are super cheap and go a LONG way with all you can do with them. Make sure you have some in your home.

12. Fart button

This is sure to get everyone in the house giggling (well, maybe not the wife… depending on her sense of humor). Anyhoo, hide this around the house, press the button when someone walks by, and blame them for blasting their trouser trumpet. Great stress reliever.

(Oh, and this is the only item here that requires batteries. 2 AAA which are included so you’ll be good to start your farting fun outta the box.)

13. Jigsaw puzzles

When was the last time you did a jigsaw puzzle? I hadn’t done one for a good decade or two and then my family got hooked on them during a vacation last year (cuz that’s the crazy way we roll)! Puzzles are actually a great way to pass some time together as a family.

Quick Tip: If you wanna be a little devious and make the puzzle last longer, dump the pieces on the table and then hide the box so your kids have to put it together without using the photo on the box!

We’re sharing a cute 500 piece puzzle of the Mandalorian here, but there’s plenty of other options for every age and interest so find one that works for you.

14. Grow ‘N Glow Terrarium

Looks like we’ll all have plenty of time to watch the grass grow. Your kids can literally do just that with their own terrarium.

This cool little science/art project has everything they need to grow their own little habitat. It even comes with glow in the dark stickers to make this terrarium – wait for it – glow in the dark. Great gift for your budding young scientists!

15. What the F*@# Should I Drink?

Even with all the fun you’ll be having with the above items on this list, there’s gonna come a time where you may just need a good stiff drink to deal with life right now.

And, at that point, you may think to yourself… what the f*@# should I drink? Well, the answer to that exact question is answered in the book “What the F*@# Should I Drink?”.

It’s funny and it’s got 75 great drinks you can whip up for you and/or the Mrs. In more ways than 1, it’s the perfect way to take some of the stress out of life right now.
