A buddy of mine was recently sitting at a red light. When the light turned green, he saw one of the cars at the front of the pack – a Tesla – take off like a rocket. This thing was freakin’ flying.
He admired the impressive acceleration for a moment before realizing that it was his wife’s Tesla. And his teenage son was behind the wheel.
So he called his kid on the phone and said “Hey bud, how fast you going?”
“Just the speed limit” was the response.
“That’s not what it just looked like to me” my buddy told his son.
His son replied, “Well, that was just cuz, umm, I, uh, just accelerate real fast. Once I get to the speed limit, I don’t go over it.”
Mmm hmm.
Listen, teens are fucking stupid. You were too when you were a teen. As was I. It’s just part of being a teenager. They think they’re WAY smarter than they actually are.
And no matter how smart or responsible they may seem, they all have (at least moments) of mind numbingly stupid behavior. They make bad decisions. They do stupid shit. They lie. And they lie about the bad decisions they made and the stupid shit they’ve done.
Which is why so many parents like to keep a close eye on their teens’ whereabouts.
Yes, you can track teens through their phones. However using Airplane mode, turning off GPS, turning the phone off completely and other devious strategies can help teen’s get around that one.
Which is why using a GPS tracking device to keep track of your little deviant(s) is a good idea.
These things are discrete, highly accurate, highly rated and can give you a wealth of data so you have peace of mind about your teen’s whereabouts and driving behavior. These devices offer some super cool and useful features…
You can get real time locations of your teen – down to a few feet – so you know whether they are where they’re supposed to be.
They do speed tracking so you know if your teen just “accelerates real fast until they get to the speed limit” or keep on flyin’ right on past it.
You can even get text/email alerts sent to your phone so you know when your teen/car is leaving or arriving at a specific destination.
There are two good options, depending on your situation. The features are similar (accurate tracking, speed monitoring, text alerts, etc.) but there are some key differences.
The LandAirSea Sync Real Time 4G LTE GPS Tracker is perfect if you just want to track the location of a car. It plugs into the car’s OBD-II port (which ain’t a big deal to do even if you’re not a techie).
The huge benefit of this is this device requires no battery and does not need to be charged. The potential downside is it can be a little more difficult to hide this device from the driver and/or passengers in the car.
One other cool thing about this device is that no monthly fee is required for the first year – 1 year of tracking is included in the price.
The LandAirSea Waterproof Magnet Mount Real Time 4G LTE GPS Tracker is much more stealthy. You can stick it under a seat, use the magnet to attach it under the car, or stash it other places. Also, it doesn’t even have to go in a car… you can slide it in a backpack (f you wanna use it to keep track of a younger child), a pocket, purse, laptop bag or wherever.
This device does have a rechargeable battery that can go a week or two between charges. Also, it requires a monthly subscription (as pretty much all GPS trackers do).
Listen, here’s the good news. Despite being rebellious, lying, misguided, surly, resentful, unstable, obnoxious ingrates that do a lot of stupid shit, most teenagers eventually turn out just fine.
But, in the meantime, keep tabs on them with one of the GPS devices mentioned here. Speaking from experience, I can tell you it’s totally worth it just for the peace of mind and maintaining your sanity until they grow out of their teenage dumbassedness.
